Featured Artist: Kathleen Fannin

The July/August Featured Artist in the James Keefe Gallery is Kathleen Fannin. The Rev. Dr. B. Kathleen Fannin grew up in a military family that moved often. By the time she was eight, she had lived in seven states. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Psychology, and Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her Master of Theological Studies was received from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Her Doctor of Ministry was earned at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D. C. She has been a member of American Mensa since 1980.

Her varied working career includes time spent as a Park Ranger (Archaeologist) with the U.S. National Park Service, an economic developer, and a college chaplain. She also spent a number of years participating in Civil War reenactments across the United States. Fascinated by the connection between creativity and spirituality, she has led a number of retreats and workshops about the wonder of nature and the nature of wonder. She is the author of seven books, including Paper Trail: Letters from the Civil War (2013) and Wonder & Other Life Skills: Spiritual Life Retreats for Young Adults Using the Creative Arts (2007).

Throughout her life, Kathleen has been very fond of watercolor paintings and longed to learn this art form. On July 1, 2011, she went to Blick Art Materials, purchased brushes, paint, paper, and several books and began teaching herself. She entered her first art show in May, 2012, sponsored by the BCA. One of the pieces she entered (Beside Still Waters) won Best of Class: Works on Paper.
