Granaman started taking photographs in the mid 70s with a used camera and a roll of black and white film. It was love at first sight when the film was developed. Photography is a hobby that he never tires of, as there is always something new to learn and ways to improve his work. Twenty years ago, he walked into the French Quarter in New Orleans and another love affair started—this time with a city. Combining the two worked out well, as he was able to enjoy the many wonders of New Orleans while working on his photography skills. To this day, he attempts to build a photographic record to convey the passion and love he has for New Orleans, the French Quarter, and the artistic, Bohemian, and Caribbean influenced lifestyles the city offers.
Granaman is an award-winning photographer and his work has been published in Midwestern Trails, International Libraries' Best Photographs of 2003, Reflections of the World, and Disney's Buena Vista. Everything changed with the transition from film to digital photography. He continues to be thrilled, fulfilled, and amazed in his attempt at fine art photography, and he loves shooting scenes in both Ft Madison, Iowa and New Orleans, and their surrounding areas. Granaman shoots from a wheelchair, which gives him and his work what he likes to refer to as “a different perspective”. It allows him to be a thief, to steal moments of time, and record them forever. What could be better? Art — the oxygen of life.
