Kathy Owen has always dabbled in the arts including drawing, painting and photography. Her latest joy comes in the form of wire wrapped and hammered jewelry. It was initiated after a trip to Puerto Rico where she accumulated various shapes of beach glass. Wanting to make something with them she taught herself to wire wrap, fastening the beach glass into pendants and earrings for family members.
She enjoys the shaping of the wire around her objects, and mostly uses stones now, although, occasionally she will wrap her hand painted cabochons. She paints the cabochons using a dipping process. Most of her earrings are fashioned with a hammering process on the wire. Kathy’s necklaces are available for purchase in the Buchanan Center for the Arts gift shop.
